Back in 2011, Kevin and I had almost all of our friends move away to start graduate programs at different schools in the northeast. So we decided to head up to New York to visit a few of them and see how grad school was treating them.

During our visit, we also took some time to visit a few of the New York sights and enjoyed the busy city! Since this was Kevin’s first time in the Big Apple, we wanted to be sure to see as much as we could during our brief stay.

Navigating New York

We made our way throughout the city in the usual fashion for two recent graduates with no job, subway and walking! Although it sometimes took a bit of time to get from place to place, the journey was part of the experience. We enjoyed the big city and the anxiety that comes along with it.

Even though we had a great trip and got to spend a lot of quality time with good friends, the trip did make Kevin and I realize one fact about ourselves: we are not New York people. Visiting the city is great and a lot of fun, but we are much more drawn to the open spaces of mountains and the density of forests. It is important to know yourself and we got to know a little bit more about where our future lies.

You got to love watching a Peruvian Pan-Flute band in action! They were very talented and fun to watch, but it did make me want to visit Peru immediately…
